"Labeling people is necessary, whether it be career, appearance or economic status. Getting rid of labels and generalizations is a ridiculous and impossible idea, saved for idealists. Generalizations and labels help economists, psychologists, teachers, and statistics. However, as with anything, there is a bad side to this, occurring when labels are too specific or assume something subjective. For example, it is one thing to label an overweight person as overweight, but it is another thing to think because said person is overweight, they must a horrible person. These bad generalizations (also known as sexism, racism and all of the “isms”) can be avoided by education and concentrating on the actual term. One model for unacceptable terminology would have a very specific title applied to a large group of people, which would basically make it blatantly wrong."
